DANCE INSTRUCTOR - BARBARA DREW
Barbara has always loved dancing. As a child she took tap lessons offered by the parks and recreation department of Austin. Growing up she danced with friends as often as possible. After marrying she and her husband learned square dancing with the Lone Star Square Dance Club of Pasadena and took several years of ballroom dance lessons from Stevens Of Hollywood.
Barbara began line dancing at Highland Community Center when she saw an article in the newspaper featuring the classes. Soon she was dancing at all the community centers.
At the Pasadena Convention Center at a senior dance attended by high school seniors and Madison Jobe Seniors, Barbara was showing the high school seniors how to do the line dances the group was dancing when Wanda Goyer, Director of Madison Jobe Community Center, invited her to teach a line dance class at the center. She has happily taught the class for the last seven years.
Barbara also teaches an advanced line dance class at Highlands Community Center, and an intermediate class at Ramsey Community Center. In addition she conducts a teacher and teaching assistant training class at Ramsey Community Center which ultimately benefits all her classes.
She prepares all of her line dance classes each year to participate in the state wide line dance Jamboree. This year she selected and submitted three dances with music for consideration for the 2004 jamboree. All dances are presented by the teachers with their dance group and teachers are then videoed as they provide dance instructions for distribution to teachers across the state. Assisting her in the dance presentation were Lowanda Ressler, Maureen Way, Pat Bullington, Mary Hester and Faye Henry. These dances were presented at the conferance held in Farmers Branch for the purpose of selecting 2004 dances to be voted on by teachers state wide.
Barbara is very active in all aspects of line dancing, traveling great distances to line dance activities to expand her knowledge of line dancing, see different techniques, and learn from each and every place visited. Barbara enjoys volunteering her time and the line dancers are lucky to have her.
